KEEP OUR PARKS OPEN Love our Bells Bend and Beaman Parks? Because of earlier cost overruns within the Metro Parks Department, there are now proposed plans to eliminate positions at both parks, resulting in reduced hours and limitations on activities offered to the public. Please help us by sending an e-mail to the Parks Board members and Metro Council members listed below. It’s easy, and we need for you to do it right away, before it is too late! You may want to cite some of it the following reasons, or add your own. -Attendance at both parks has been on the upswing. We don’t need reduced staff and hours. -Bells Bend Park is the only park in the city that allows overnight camping. We need staff! -North Nashville and Northwest Nashville have been park-deprived until BB and Beaman Parks were opened. -Nature Deficit Disorder is very real. Inner city children are most likely to suffer, and we don’t want to see visits cut back. -We would lose programs and events for people of all ages; conference use; hiking; presentations and programs such as nature hikes, bird hikes, workshops, etc. -Beaman and Bells Bend Parks are unique in Nashville. They are the only two environmental parks offering unique programs and outdoor opportunities. -We all know that there are budget shortfalls in Metro government and Metro parks. -Do you have some creative solutions to this problem? And can those of us who love these parks help in a more tangible way? You can contact Friends of Bells Bend Park (Julia Graves, GravesJulH@AOL.Com, phone 259-2811 or Sharon Work, tidwellworks@yahoo.com, phone 244-6088) or Friends of Beaman Park ( see http://www.beamanpark.org/contacts.htm).
PLEASE take a moment to contact the people listed. IN ADDITION: For those of us who feel that allowing people to carry guns in public parks is a dangerous thing, you should know that councilman Sam Coleman is proposing that people be allowed to carry guns into our "remote” Beaman and Bells Bend parks, as well as in a number of others. If you have concerns about this, please direct your concerns about this to each Metro Council member as soon as possible.
FOR BOTH ISSUES, you may easily send an e-mail to individual council members or all council members at http://www.nashville.gov/council/feedback.aspx.
Thank you.. |
